The Acalanes Parent Club (APC) Campus Culture Committee (CCC), formerly known as DEIB, would like to welcome you to the 2025–26 school year! This year, our focus is on building a stronger parent support system for all student groups on campus and working closely with staff on issues that have an impact on our students. We also recognize that supporting our students starts with supporting parents — so part of our mission is to ensure parents feel cared for through mental health support and a strong collective voice.

August Important Date:
August 26 – Women’s Equality Day

The Acalanes campus is a place of inclusivity and welcome for all. As we begin a new school year, the Community & Climate Committee invites students, parents, and staff to take small steps to help others feel a sense of belonging.

Student Challenge: Encourage your student to say “hello” to three students they’ve never met before. Ask them how it felt to connect with new peers—and imagine how meaningful it would be if someone welcomed you as you walked into work one morning.

Parent Challenge: Lead by example! At your next Acalanes event, say “hello” to two new parents and share your experience with us on social media.

Why August 26 Matters
Women’s Equality Day commemorates the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment, which granted women the right to vote and affirmed the importance of equal participation in democracy.

Together, small actions make our Acalanes community stronger, more welcoming, and more connected.

  • June celebrates Pride, Juneteenth and the Summer Solstice.

June celebrates PRIDE and there are several resources to dig into on the AUHSD DEIB website including PFLAG. We have a local chapter in our own community and if you are in need of support, allyship or just a sense of belonging you can find them here. Our school also has a QSA club and AUHSD recognizes June as LGBTQIA+ Pride month in our district.

Juneteenth, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday celebrated annually on Jun 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States. Early celebrations date back to 1866, at first involving church-centered community gatherings in Texas. They spread across the South among newly freed African American slaves and their descendants and became more commercialized in the 1920s and 1930s, often centering on a food festival. Participants in the Great Migration brought these celebrations to the rest of the country.
