SENIOR CAR RALLY
Thank you so much to Linda Choi, Mendy Gonzalez, and all the volunteers for leading the planning of Friday’s car rally! Such a fun event for our graduating seniors and we appreciate all of their work to make it happen!

AHS SUMMER GARDEN PLANS
We plan to be in the AHS garden on Tuesdays from 5:30-7:30pm during the weeks of Jun 11, 18, 25; Jul 16, 23, 30; and Aug 6. We will be working on weeding and hopefully, later in the summer, harvesting. If you’d like to come and help, please take a moment to sign up here.

When we start to harvest we hope to have enough to share with our extended AHS family – staff and families. Please sign up on this form if you are interested in being notified about picking up produce. Keep in mind that pick up times will be during our work parties and we may not be able to give you much notice! Alternatively, you can just stop by on a Tuesday evening to check in, hang out, and see what is growing. We will be mulching for weeds when we return in August so we’ll need cardboard again. If you are able to donate, please remove all tape and labels. It can be dropped off in room 201 before school is out or in the hallway outside the farm (in front of the autoshop classroom door) after that.

Thanks for all of your support! If you have any questions, please reach out – LTewksbury@auhsdschools.org. Have a great summer!

ACALANES GARDEN – MAY UPDATE
We had a small group of kids and adults show up on Sunday, April 21 (Earth Day) to plant, weed, and set up irrigation. All of our summer crops are planted and thanks to Yuri and his son Alexey we have drip irrigation installed in all the beds! We have a small layer of straw to help with water conservation and weed suppression. The weeds are pretty fierce so we will spend the last two garden club lunch meetings weeding in the farm.

We have our summer schedule and mulch date set up. Unfortunately it is too close to the end of year to have another Sunday work party so we are planning our mulching work day on Sunday, Aug 25 when we return, and will go 9-11am to avoid the hot midday heat. We are fortunate that Ecomulch will donate the mulch that we need and only charge us a small delivery fee.

Our summer work evenings will be Tuesdays 5:30-7:30pm.  We will weed, harvest, and start our “community veggie boxes” if we have a big harvest. We will meet every Tuesday except the first two weeks of July.  The dates are: 6/11, 6/18, 6/25, 7/16, 7/23, 7/30, 8/6.  Either Mrs. Challacombe or myself (or both) will be there. If you think you can/want to come to any of these evenings, please sign up HERE.

Finally,  we are in desperate need of cardboard and could also use new gardening tools and gloves. Please feel free to drop items off at room 201 before the year is done.  If you are binging bardboard, it would be great if you could remove any tape and labels before you drop it off.

Thanks so much for all of your support.  If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Tewksbury (LTewksbury@auhsdschools.org)

GARDEN UPDATE
We had a garden work party last Sunday, Apr 21, in honor of Earth Day. A few kids and adults showed up to help us finish our spring planting and weeding!! All 11 beds in the farm are planted, mostly with plants that the garden club grew from seed. We are growing tomatoes, peppers (bell and hot), eggplant, squash (summer and winter), cucumbers, a few cantaloupes, collard greens, swiss chard, kale, basil, some oregano and thyme, and we also planted carrot, radish, arugula and bean seeds. We have new soil in the newly raised beds and drip irrigation installed and running on a timer. We are excited to have our plants “in the ground” and can’t wait until we have our first harvest.

Our goal is to provide produce to the Acalanes staff, students, and parents. If there is enough, we want to expand that to the general community, with anything left over going to White Pony as they have a system set up for distributing food they collect to those in need.

We also worked for a couple of hours weeding – they are out of control!  What that means is we need to add more cardboard and mulch. If you have cardboard, please remove all tape and labels before dropping it off in room 201.

Finally – we will have summer work times to weed (and eventually harvest) and will send out the schedule once we set it up. Thanks for all of your support!
