  • General Administration Announcement

    April 17, 2022

Parents of juniors and seniors! CAASPP testing continues through this week. We have enjoyed excellent participation in testing thus far and appreciate the continued support from our Acalanes families.

Juniors will finish the ELA portion of the testing by this Wednesday. After that, both Juniors and Seniors will begin the Science testing, CAST, on Thursday Apr 21. All Juniors AND Seniors will take this portion of the test.

    • Most students will take the CAST in their science class, but some students may have to change rooms/locations for testing.
    • If your student is NOT enrolled in a science class, they will be assigned to either a 6th period or 7th period cohort to complete the testing.

Room assignments will be posted on the front of the counseling office as well as sent to your student's Gmail inbox.

Parents of Seniors- testing requires either a school-issued Chromebook or, if using one's own laptop, the installation of a designated, secure browser. Please have your student look for posters around campus explaining how to download a secure browser, if needed. All students need to come to the test prepared with the appropriate technology! Again, this testing is mandatory and the goal is to get every student to complete the testing. Once again, thank you for your support!

Does your family celebrate Easter, Orthodox Easter, or Passover? Turns out these holidays have much in common. In fact, Easter’s roots canbe traced to Judaism by its original Greek name, Pascha.

Michael W. Twitty, food historian and author says he likes to bring his full identity as a Black Jew to the symbolic food of the seder meal during Passover. He will make his haroseth to symbolize the Egyptians’ enslavement of Israelites as well as sweet potato, signifying hope and renewal.

If you missed Technology and Civil Liberties Attorney Matt Cagle’s acclaimed documentary film Coded Bias last month, you can watch it here for free! The film follows an MIT researcher’s push for the first-ever legislation against bias in algorithms after she reveals how facial recognition software does not see dark-skinned faces accurately.
