Counseling
Counselors are working from home and are still here to support our students. We miss seeing our students! Please contact us if you have questions or want to check in.
DVC summer classes: Diablo Valley College (DVC) published a schedule of summer classes. It looks like they are preparing to offer all summer classes online. If your student is looking to take a college course for enrichment purposes, it could be a good opportunity. Students need to apply to DVC online ahead of time. Check back with DVC after May 4 for a paperless concurrent enrollment process.
Transcripts Students can still request official transcripts on the webstore. Our registrar is processing requests regularly. Unofficial transcripts can be requested from our registrar or a counselor.
We want to remind you of some valuable community resources:

Co-Presidents’ Message
Thank you to our amazing Dons community! Along with our partner schools in the district, in just one week we raised over $6,300 towards our goal of $10,000 and donated thousands of pounds of canned goods to our neighboring communities as part of the AUHSD Food Drive. There is still time to give! Donation bins are located near the Main Gym and online donations can be made here. Our Dons families also pushed Lafayette Community Foundation $4,600 closer to their $25,000 matching campaign goal. You can still support their effort here. This week’s Community Can’t Be Canceled effort focuses on supporting Lafayette businesses who are still “open” while their brick and mortar stores are closed.- Let's Celebrate Moms, Grads and Dads! Many local boutiques (think Amphora Nueva, Farmyard Darlings, Lemon, Luck, Venture, etc.) may appear to be closed but owners are happy to pull items, gift wrap and deliver them right to your doorstep. With Mother’s Day right around the corner, now is a great time to view a selection of gifts from our Lafayette retailers on the Lafayette Chamber’s website.

AUHSD Food Drive Better When Joined Together!
Acalanes has partnered with Campolindo, Miramonte and Las Lomas to support our neighbors in need. Keep up the great work by contributing to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano Counties food bins placed at all AUHSD campuses to collect canned food and nonperishable items. Please follow county Shelter in Place guidelines should you choose to contribute. They are also in urgent need of monetary donations which you can do online here.

Lafayette Gifts for Mom!
Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10, and Lafayette retailers have put together some great gift ideas to purchase for Mom. You can check out a selection of gifts from local businesses on the Lafayette Chamber’s website here. Buying local helps our Lafayette businesses survive and provides sales tax dollars to the City of Lafayette.

AHS Leadership Spurs Appreciation to our Local Grocery Stores
Our local grocery stores, including Diablo Foods, Safeway, Trader Joes and Whole Foods, are going out of their way to support our community by creating safe spaces to shop. These workers are putting their own health and safety on the line so that we can feed our families. AHS Leadership is spearheading an effort to “thank a grocery worker” wherever you shop by dropping off a handwritten note of thanks.

Wellness Center
We learned a lot this week from a state-wide wellness webinar about what students most need right now. To put it simply, they need the four R’s: Reassurance (this is temporary and everything will be okay); Routine (loss of structure is destabilizing--human beings need it); Regulation (in times of stress, we must practice self-care to calm the central nervous system response to a steady diet of uncertainty, complexity, and volatility) and most importantly, Relationships (ones that offer love without condition, safety, and understanding.) We also got to hear from grief experts about the very unique type of loss students are suffering. Worthy of your time, here is an excellent article on helping your kids with grief and loss from the Greater Good Science Center. This coming week, we continue to offer programming that leans toward “fun and games” as students have expressed a need for that. We’re also offering something cool and different on Tuesday at 5pm as we interview a class of ‘18 Don, now Tiktok celebrity, about how he’s prioritizing wellbeing and sharing it with others. Be well and stay in touch! (CS 4/24 @3:20)
